Raised by her mother within the USA she faced many racial slurs which gave her feeling of being a bit unpopular. The confidence started to build at the age of nineteen when she entered a school audition and was highly praised for her singing. Not only did it boost her confidence but her ambitions were changed. In 1992 she graduated with her diploma from the New York's Julliard School. When she was 23, she began her career making her debut on Broadway in Paul Simon's The Capeman and in films with You've Got Mail. The most notable achievement of her career was in the role of The Lady Of The Lake as Spamalot's original Broadway production. In addition to being the only actress to receive the Tony Award, but her performance was also highly praised by the critics. Following that, in 2007, she was cast on the ABC show Grey's Anatomy and became more famous. She is also a known performer and has produced an extended show. In her role as an activist, she works tirelessly to promote LGBT equality.
